AFTER a year’s break due to a washed-out summer tourist season amid the coronavirus pandemic, Ceredigion council is once again inviting traders to tender for licenses to sell food and drink on Aberystwyth promenade.

In the hope that lockdown restrictions will ease and the summer will see tourists return to the town, the council wants to see more businesses set up on the sea-front.

The council decided to invite traders to apply for licenses to sell food and beverages on the promenade last summer, after a successful pilot trial from July to October 2019.

That plan never went ahead with the country in lockdown.

During the pilot trial, six spaces were made available on the promenade; two spaces for mobile kiosks and four larger spaces for existing businesses, on the other side of the road, to set up seating areas.

Last year the council said that a “public survey was published to seek the opinions from traders and promenade users and a large number of responses were received which were largely supportive of continuing.”

Ceredigion council is now inviting tenders for licences to sell food and beverages during the 2021 season, “in various locations on Aberystwyth Promenade and beach”, between 26 March and 31 October this year.

Closing date for tenders is 12pm, 8 March 2021.
