A £13 million investment for a holiday camp in Pwllheli has been welcomed.
The multi-million pound investment will be used to upgrade Haven’s Hafan y Môr site which, it is claimed, will lead to the creation of over 150 jobs during construction work and 45 full-time jobs once the work is completed.
A beach café, play area and coastal defences are among the new features planned for the park and most of the full-time jobs will be based around the café.
Pwllheli councillor Dylan Bullard welcomed the investment, saying: “Both Haven and Butlin’s before them have been valuable to the Pwllheli and Dwyfor economies over the years, employing many locals.
Lately, Haven has invested millions in Hafan y Môr and are about to do so again.
“We welcome this investment and look forward to the extra employment it secures. Not only does it benefit the immediate area but will also boost the economies of towns on the Cambrian Line.”
Cllr Bullard added: “With the Eisteddfod visiting the area next year this will ensure more accommodation is available to visitors. It’s going to be a very busy time in Ll?n.”
Over £13m has already been invested in the park in the last 12 months, with a new activity village and restaurant being introduced and major pool refurbishment taking place.
A spokesperson for Haven Holidays said: “As Haven continues to invest in the park and the surrounding area it is proposing a further development which will see a small extension to one of the operational areas, some additional static caravan accommodation including some high quality accommodation which will replace existing old two-storey apartments which will be demolished.
“The proposal will create 158 full-time equivalent jobs during the construction period.
“Once complete, the proposed development is estimated to create 45 new direct jobs at the park, mainly based at the beach café but also taking into account the additional requirements for maintenance.
“The proposed development will also help to ensure that Gwynedd continues to offer a range of high quality holiday accommodation in order to attract expenditure from overnight visitors, which is of key importance to the local economy.”
