A MULTI-MILLION-POUND project on the Llyn Peninsula expected to bring 30 jobs to the area is back on the table.

UK pub chain JD Wetherspoon have confirmed that they will be resubmitting their plans to further develop their existing Pen Cob establishment in Pwllheli and expand it to a 40-bedroom hotel after their planning application was refused earlier this year.

The chain originally submitted their development plans for the restaurant building in December 2017 but their application, which also included a large beer garden, was refused by Gwynedd council’s planning committee in January after it failed to meet various guidelines.

Planning officials expressed concern that the chain failed to demonstrate that the risk of flooding to the ground floor and basement level could be acceptably managed.

They also claimed that the alterations to the existing warehouse building is not “sympathetic to the character and appearance of the existing building and would not preserve or enhance the character and appearance of the conservation area.”

The existing pub first opened back in December 2013 with the company then purchasing a vacant building, formerly ‘Tiggs’, which is located behind the pub, in August 2015 with the idea of creating an external beer garden and upper level terrace.

If the plans are accepted it will be the first of its kind in Pwllheli and Wetherspoon’s second hotel in North Wales.

A spokesman for Wetherspoons said: “Wetherspoon want to build the hotel, with 40 rooms and a large beer garden extending from the rear.

“It will cost approximately £3.5m and create 30 jobs.”
