THE Bae Ceredigion branch of the Campaign for Real Ale has named the Druid Inn in Goginan as its Cider Pub of the Year 2018.
The Druid Inn successfully fought off competition from an increasing number of local pubs selling a range of real cider to retain the title this year.
Real cider is produced from apples, not from concentrate like many well-known ciders in the UK.
It can be served directly from a plastic cask, from a ‘bag in box’ (similar to wine), in a bottle or from a handpump like real ale.
Tristan Robinson, chairman of Bae Ceredigion CAMRA, said: “The Druid Inn continues to lead the field by offering the biggest choice of real cider locally from a range of different producers.
“There were an impressive eight real ciders on draught plus an interesting choice in bottles when we last visited the pub.
“It’s also great how the friendly and knowledgeable staff promote real cider here as enthusiastically as real ale.”
The runner-up award was given to Kane’s Bar in Aberystwyth.
Tristan said: “We are lucky to have a bar dedicated to real cider in Aberystwyth. Kane’s offers an excellent range of six draught ciders from Welsh producers on the bar, plus some bottled ciders, along with informative tasting notes.”
