BREWERY chiefs face an anxious wait to see whether they have fallen foul of Ceredigion County Council planning regulations by fitting new windows at a popular Aberaeron pub.
Felinfoel Brewery are being investigated for a possible breach of planning control after launching a major refurbishment of the Royal Oak, a Grade-II-listed building set in a conservation area.
The hostelry has been run by the husband-and-wife team of Stephen and Michelle Colvin since October 2014. The couple are keen to point out the Victorian pub’s new windows are not uPVC, which are prohibited in a conservation area, but painted hardwood.
“The main complaint about the Oak was that it was always cold,” Michelle, 46, told the Cambrian News.
“We’ve had a new central heating system put in and these windows are meant to keep the pub warm. It was absolutely freezing when we moved in here.
“Despite what some people are saying, our new windows are not uPVC; they’re 100 per cent wood and obviously good for the environment.”
A Felinfoel Brewery spokesperson said: “We are looking forward to what we hope will be positive discussions with Ceredigion County Council and trust this situation can be resolved as speedily as possible to the satisfaction of all parties concerned.”
Ceredigion council said it was considering whether enforcement action is appropriate.
