AROUND 70 jobs have been lost after a major employer unexpectedly closed down.
Workers at Falconer Electricals were told to report to the company’s Penrhyndeudraeth headquarters last week where they were told they were being made redundant.
Some of the staff were left stranded as they had to leave their work vans on site (pictured right) and make their own way home.
The company will now go into liquidation, with customers and staff unsure of what happens next.
Falconer Electricals had been a contractor on a number of major schemes in north Wales, carrying out work at places like Harlech Castle, Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor and the Snowdon summit building.
Dwyfor Meirionnydd MP Liz Saville Roberts and Penrhyndeudraeth councillor Gareth Thomas were both shocked by the disappointing news.
“It is too early to understand the nature of the problems apparent at Falconer Electricals, but clearly it is important to concentrate on the local employees affected by this news, who will be understandably worried for their future,” they said in a joint statement.
“It has been a terrible week in terms of job losses in north Wales, following the recent announcement by REHAU and uncertainty regarding Wylfa.
“We extend our sympathies to all workers at Falconers and stand ready to support those affected in any way that we can.”
Falconer Electricals has been approached for comment but no reply had been received by the time the Cambrian News went to press.
