SHOPKEEPERS got in the mood for love recently by decorating their windows to mark St Dwynwen’s Day.

The competition was organised by Hunaniaith, which works to promote the Welsh language in Gwynedd.

Prizes awarded in Dolgellau and Porthmadog went respectively to the Dolgellau branch of the Farmers’ Union of Wales and Glosters, the Porthmadog-based ceramics and pottery business.

The competition was judged in Dolgellau by local artist Gareth Wyn Jones and at Porthmadog by the sculptor and jeweller Ann Catrin Evans.

Gareth congratulated all participating businesses for transforming the town and praised in particular Medi, Moncrieffe, Sulis and Henry’s, but UAC window came out on top because of its originality, which includes elements which are important to the local area and its people, and provides a central place for the Welsh language at the heart of the nation.
