SHOP local and support Porthmadog businesses this Christmas, a local councillor has urged.

As many families start thinking about Christmas shopping, Porthmadog councillor Nia Jeffreys is supporting businesses in her ward and calling on people to do the same over Christmas.

“We have many great business in Porthmadog from toy shops, baby clothes shops, flower shop, book shop, butcher and fab hairdressers and beauty therapists too,” said Cllr Jeffreys.

“Last Christmas I managed to do most of my Christmas shopping in the town and I plan to try and do the same this year.

“Money spent locally stays locally and boosts the economy and the town for everyone who lives here.”

Businesses in the area have achieved nation acclaim lately with both Browsers Bookshop and Y Sgwâr Restaurant, in nearby Tremadog, both being named as the best businesses of their type in Wales.

Dechrau Da – A Good Start has also won a best dressed window, awarded by a national childrenswear company.

Marian Grace Jones, owner of Dechrau Da - A Good Start, said: “ Porthmadog is a historic harbour town full of unique independent shops offering a lovely variety of carefully chosen or handmade goods.

“Shop owners make a great effort with their window displays and I was shocked and really proud recently to be acknowledged by British Organic Childrenswear company Kite when they awarded me with first prize for my Autumn window.

“Porthmadog is the perfect destination, now with Christmas around the corner, for all your gifts.

“It is so important to shop local and put your pounds where your heart is and keep our town going strong.”
