A TOTAL of three restaurants in Machynlleth and Llanidloes have been given zero food hygiene ratings.

The Food Standards Agency has given the lowest food hygiene rating possible — ‘urgent improvement necessary’ — to two businesses in Machynlleth, and one in Llanidloes.

These are the Centre for Alternative Technology and The Taj Mahal in Machynlleth, and the Spice Club Restaurant in Llanidloes.

The ratings followed inspections on 2 September at CAT, on 9 November at The Taj Mahal, and on 3 August at the Spice Club Restaurant.

At CAT, inspectors found “major improvement necessary” in two areas inspected — ‘hygienic food handling’ and ‘management of food safety’ — and “urgent improvement necessary” in one area — ‘cleanliness and condition of facilities and building’.

At the Taj Mahal, inspectors found “major improvement necessary” in two areas inspected — ‘hygienic food handling’ and ‘management of food safety’ — and “improvement necessary” in one area — ‘cleanliness and condition of facilities and building’.

Meanwhile, inspectors found “major improvement necessary” in all three areas at Spice Club.
