A PWLLHELI Tory members club has closed its doors for the final time after more than 50 years in the town.

The Conservative Club in the Llyn town closed down on Sunday.

It is believed the business was struggling after membership dwindled.

The club at its peak boasted over 2,000 members.

In recent weeks concerns have been raised for the future of long-running businesses and establishments in the town.

Cllr Jonathan Roberts from Pwllheli Town Council says businesses are being ‘eaten up’ by large companies coming into small towns.

He said: “Over the last couple of weeks, we are seeing an increase in businesses closing in the town, including a café, sports shop, a club and another shop on Gaol Street.

“As a community we must support our small businesses in the area as a whole, every town is being slowly eaten up by large multinational stores coming in and promising the world and only delivering misery to the small businesses. With Christmas coming up, stop and think, could I buy that item from the local shopkeeper and help keep local economies flourishing.”
