FOUR trees in Aberystwyth are to be felled to stop their roots causing damage to gardens of nearby properties.
Aberystwyth Town Council will remove the trees after residents in Queens Road raised concerns that roots were sprouting up into their gardens which back on to Cambridge Terrace.
Cllr Mark Strong said following a meeting it had been decided that the four trees causing the problem would be removed and replacement trees planted in the area.
But he added that replacement trees will be planted by the town council in the area.
He said: “I participated in a meeting that I organised in order to find a suitable way forward to resolve difficulties encountered by the residents of Rhes Caergrawnt due to suckering of populus alba, commonly known as white poplar, and to discuss tree strategies in general in the area.
“I, along with others on the town council, have been keen to take the cautious approach in ensuring that the interests of householders are considered while making every attempt to avoid destroying mature trees."
