RESIDENTS of a Meirionydd village will have to raise hundreds of pounds after realising they will need a new cabinet to store a defibrillator bought by one of the villagers.

Barry Jones bought a “much-needed” defibrillator for the village of Aberangell to celebrate his wife Carole’s birthday, who said she was “delighted” with the “complete surprise”.

The defibrillator was then presented as a gift to village residents.

But now, villagers have learned that further fund-raising is needed to buy a cabinet to house the life-saving equipment on the outside wall of the village hall.

Resident Linda Rogers said: “We have learned that in order to install it, we need a cabinet to protect it.

“I am about to start a search for funds of around £500 to buy this cabinet.

“We are looking into having a bake sale in the village in order to raise our own funds, and I will also be asking whether we might find any support from the organisers of the local car rallies, and from RAF Valley.”

Villagers came to the village hall last week to receive CPR and defibrillator training from volunteers at Welsh Hearts.

Linda said: “The training from Welsh Hearts was great.

“I will now feel much more confident in administering CPR or using a defibrillator if I’m ever in an emergency situation.

“CPR and defibrillator training is available free from Welsh Hearts to anyone who would like it, and I would really recommend it.”

Welsh Hearts has placed 958 defibrillators across Wales and has trained 40,895 people in CPR.
