A TYWYN teenager has been chosen as the face of March for a new soldiers’ charity calendar.

Elise Faragher, 14, is a Gwynedd Army Cadet and features in the ABF – The Soldiers Charity calendar for 2019.

The Ysgol Uwchradd Tywyn pupil is a member of Tywyn detachment who joined the cadets in January 2018.

After completing her basic training she attended her first cadet camp at Easter based in Nesscliff Camp in Shropshire.

During the exercise phase of camp Elise was pictured whilst learning field craft skills.

The photograph was subsequently selected from the many thousands submitted to the ABF The Soldiers Charity photography competition becoming the feature picture for March in the 2019 calendar.

Elise was delighted she was a cadet.

“I’ve made friends for life and got to do once in a lifetime things,” she said.

“I have gained a lot of confidence from cadets.

“I’ve come out of my shell loads compared to when I first started and camp was epic.”

The calendar has been produced to help raise much needed funds for the ABF The Soldiers Charity and can be purchased on line from soldierscharityshop.org

Major John Baxendale, the recruiting officer for Clwyd and Gwynedd ACF who is responsible for the distinctive photo, was keen to encourage more youngsters to join their ranks.

“Many young people are missing out on the challenges and adventures that could transform their lives,” he said.

“The Army Cadets can change that. We give young people fun, friendship, action and adventure.

“We inspire them to challenge their limits and go further in life, no matter what they aim to do.

“If you think you have got the enthusiasm, stamina, courage and mental strength and you want to find out more then why not come along at 7pm on a Monday night to meet the adult instructors and talk to the cadets.

“Come along and be part of something special.”

The Tywyn detachment, which meets at the ACF Hut, Morfa Camp, currently has vacancies for enthusiastic 12 to 18-year-olds in the wider Tywyn area.
