UNRENTED garages at Machynlleth’s Cae Crwn need to be cleared out of fly-tipped rubbish urgently, a local councillor has insisted.

Cllr Monica Atkins said it was “unfair” that residents were having to put up with the eyesore garages which she said are full of litter, and she urged Powys County Council to take action to tidy them up.

She said that four of the Powys Council-owned garages had been targeted by fly-tippers after Powys Council had failed to secure them.

Machynlleth Town Council has backed calls for action on the garages, but Cllr Atkins said she was disappointed that nothing had been done.

She said: “I’ve been trying, since the beginning of March, to get rubbish removed from the garages. Our AM Russell George was told the rubbish would be cleared, but nothing has been done at all.

“There are rats there. I’ve been down there and people are very concerned.

“It’s unbelievable. Powys want to pull their finger out and either pull them down or clear them out. It’s not fair for the residents there.”

Simon Inkson, the council’s head of housing, said: “We have made arrangements to remove these items from the garages and this will happen as soon as possible."
