A COUNCILLOR has called for temporary CCTV cameras at graffiti trouble spots in Aberystwyth after a spate of vandalism.
The Cambrian News has reported on a number of police appeals to catch perpetrators of graffiti around the town over the past few weeks.
Aberystwyth councillor Martin Shewring said that the problem in the town, and particularly in the grounds of Aberystwyth castle, was “getting much worse”.
Cllr Shewring said he would welcome any measures to combat what he called a “blight” on the town.
A key tourist attraction in the town, Aberystwyth castle has been a target for graffiti vandals for several years.
Temporary CCTV systems were set up in Glanyrafon Terrace in Trefechan after a two-week spate of vehicle damage left residents facing a bill of thousands of pounds.
Cllr Shewring said he would welcome the same kind of trial at Aberystwyth castle and in other trouble hotspots, including Vulcan Street where several walls were graffitied in just one night last week.
“Vandalism and disrespect for property in Aberystwyth is not to be tolerated,” Cllr Shewring said.
