AN ABERYSTWYTH councillor has called on Network Rail to extend the canopy at the refurbished train station to provide cover for passengers.
Cllr Mark Strong said that he made “strong representations” during the consultation period on the £3m improvement plan for the station completed earlier this year and was “disappointed” that the platform canopy wasn’t extended to provide cover from rain for all passengers getting on and off.
“During the consultation I said that the canopy should be extended to include all passengers and it really needs to be done,” Cllr Strong told the Cambrian News.
“I’m still pushing Network Rail to see if we can get this done because it’s very short-sighted not to have the canopy.
“There are so many more people using the extra services so we have to give them the facilities.
“For two-coach trains, the second coach is mostly out in the open - with four-coach trains the situation is much worse.
“We don’t want people coming here and getting soaked straight away if it’s raining. It’s great to see the improvements that have already been made but it’s important to get that canopy extended.
