COMMUNITY Police officers in Dolgellau are urging the town council to install more CCTV cameras around the town.

Speaking to town councillors recently, two PCSOs suggested the Meirionnydd town would benefit from extra surveillance.

PCSO Gareth Jones said: “CCTV is a real asset to any police inquiry.

“There are very few instances of reportable crime in Dolgellau but we would still urge the council to consider plans to install extra cameras if they can.

“In towns like Barmouth and Blaenau Ffestiniog it can really assist the police with their enquiries.

“More than that, CCTV not only helps catch criminals they also deter crime.

“Grants are available for this sort of thing and I believe I’m right when I say that each case is judged on merit rather than high or low crime rates.”

However, the PCSOs were keen to stress that Dolgellau was one of the safest towns in Meirionnydd with PCSO David Jones calling the town “the Welsh riveria of policing” and described the area as “a lovely place to live”.
