THE Cambrian News has been shortlisted for a top media industry award.
We have made it to the final three in the best weekly newspaper in Wales category in the annual Wales Media Awards.
And our reporter Alex Jones has been nominated for the print news reporter of the year title.
A team of more than 30 independent judges worked their way through almost 200 entries in 19 categories from individual print, online, radio and television journalists and from newspapers, web outlets and broadcasters to make their selection.
The winners of each category, along with the winners of the Journalist of the Year and Outstanding Contribution Awards, will be announced at a prestigious black tie ceremony hosted by broadcaster Dermot Murnaghan at the Mercure Holland House Hotel, Cardiff, on 31 March.
The evening is the major Welsh fundraiser for the Journalists’ Charity, which supports working and retired journalists in urgent need with advice, grants and other forms of financial assistance.
The Cambrian News is up against the Western Telegraph and County Times, and Alex is up against two daily reporters, Liz Perkins and Gemma Parry, both of the South Wales Evening Post.
The Cambrian News won the title of best weekly newspaper two years ago and was highly commended last year.
Cambrian News managing editor Bev Thomas said: “We are thrilled to have been shortlisted for the prestigious Welsh Weekly Newspaper of the Year award and also that one of our reporting team, Alex Jones, has been shortlisted for the reporter of the year title.
“Our editorial team works hard, week in and week out, to bring our readers the stories that matter to them most and to campaign on their behalf for the best local services.”
