A GROUP of Penparcau residents suffering from disabilities including Parkinson’s Disease and the effects of a stroke have created a piece of Christmas art, thanks to some of the proceeds from the Cambrian News 10k race.

Members of the Penparcau Progressive Action Group, which meets every Wednesday at Neudd Goffa in Penparcau, got together to make a mosaic nativity which will now go on display.

Member Norma Round-Dipple said: “We all get together to share arts, crafts and friendship and forget about the various disabilities we all have.

“We have no outside source of funds which restricts the activities we are able to do.

“Earlier this year the generosity of a gift from the Cambrian News 10k race enabled us to purchase the raw materials to create a mosaic.

“After much discussion it was finally decided to make a nativity scene in silhouette.

“Although some members have only the use of one hand from the effects of a stoke or uncontrollable shakes from Parkinson’s they all joined in cutting the tiles, glueing them to the three feet by two feet baseboard and finally grouting the complete picture.

“Everybody found a sense of achievement as the picture developed and we; Barry Keeler, Adrian Davies, Dai Evans, Barbara Madden, Pam Byrne, John and Glenda Smith, Norma and Simon Round-Dipple and David Atherton wanted to share our finished creation which was only possible with the funds from your annual 10K race.”

The mosaic will be displayed in St Anne’s Church, Penparcau for the Christmas period before being donated to Bronglais Hospital.
