THE Cambrian News has once again been shortlised for the Welsh Weekly Newspaper of the Year award.
We are up against the County Times and the Western Telegraph in the Western Power Distribution-sponsored competition in the annual Wales Media Awards hosted by TV newsreader and presenter Huw Edwards in Cardiff.
Also shortlisted in the Specialist Journalist of the Year category sponsored by the Welsh Government is former Cambrian News reporter Caleb Spencer who left us last month.
He is up against David Grundy of BBC Cymru Wales and James Crichton-Smith of ITV Cymru Wales at the awards evening being held in March.
The awards will be presented at a prestigious black-tie ceremony at the Mercure Holland House Hotel.
The evening is the major Welsh fundraiser for the Journalists’ Charity, which supports working and retired journalists in urgent need with advice, grants and other forms of financial assistance.
Cambrian News managing editor Bev Thomas said: “We are thrilled to have been shortlisted once again for the prestigious Welsh Weekly Newspaper of the Year award.
“While we are not in it for the awards, the shortlisting is recognition of the campaigning work we do on behalf of our communities and you, our readers, to keep you in the picture about local issues and to make a difference to your lives.
“All credit should go to our hard-working and talented teams, who go above and beyond to bring you the latest news, sport, pictures and advertising, week in, week out. We also offer you a unique platform for celebrating all your good news, celebrations and charity work.”
Bev added: “The Wales Media Awards were launched four years ago. The Cambrian News was the first winner of the Welsh Weekly Newspaper of the Year award and is the only paper to have been shortlisted every single year.”
