A WOMAN on a mission to make Machynlleth plastic-free has drawn up a petition to gather support.
Increasingly concerned about the amount of plastic used in everything she buys, farmer and author Tia Jones has instigated a local initiative to reduce her plastic footprint, and has drawn up a C.U.P. (Clear Up Plastic) petition for all the shops in Machynlleth.
She hopes customers will sign the petition and support her vision.
“I want to make my home town of Machynlleth use less plastic/produce less waste," she said. “Shops are supporting the petition for customers to sign to cut back on the plastic in our everyday shopping which I hope goes back to head offices and suppliers.
“I hope very much that the shops’ customers will sign the petition, demanding less plastic packaging on products, so that they can relay this message back to their suppliers.
“Where it is absolutely essential, then at least make it biodegradable and/or recyclable.
“I live in a beautiful place and it bothers me to see so much discarded plastic lying around that will eventually end up in the sea, destroying so much of our wildlife. And for what? Modern day convenience that is a death knell to the planet? That is a price too high to pay.”
