A TYWYN man, stricken with leukaemia as a teenager, has organised a gruelling triathlon in Meirionnydd.

Geraint Rowlands always lived an active lifestyle until he was struck by the diagnosis at the age of 15.

Fortunately Geraint, now in his mid-thirties, made a full recovery and has set up an public event which he hopes will raise money for Bloodwise, a charity dedicated to eradicating blood cancer.

He explained: “I was born and bred in Tywyn and I was forever in the sea, running the Dysynni trails or off into the mountains looking for adventure.

“The idea was always in the back of my mind to attempt a triathlon from the sea in Tywyn to the peak of Cader Idris, from sea to summit.

“In August 1996, at the age of 15, I was in Ysbyty Bronglais after being diagnosed with Leukaemia.

“It seriously changed my life from that moment on.

“Fortunately, I overcame my battle with blood cancer and have been lucky to take on far more adventures to raise money for Bloodwise.

“Over the past few years, I have been inviting friends to join me on a sunny summer Saturday, to take on the Caderman triathlon, which sees participants travel from the sea to the summit of Cader Idris by human power alone.”
