OWNERS of an Aberystwyth caravan park have been accused of flouting environmental rules after they altered a river flood bank without prior consent.

Natural Resources Wales confirmed that, while they are satisfied works to repair a flood bank bordering Aberystwyth Holiday Village and the River Rheidol do not increase the flood risk, “no consent was issued or applied for” as is required for works within seven metres of the main river reaches.

Richard Wicks, NRW flood risk analyst, told the Cambrian News this week: “Natural Resources Wales are aware of the repair work on the flood bank at Aberystwyth Holiday Village and are satisfied it hasn’t increased flood risk.

“Most of the bank keeps to the same alignment as before with one part possibly being a bit wider, but none of the work has affected the flow of the River Rheidol.

“NRW has advised the owners to contact us before any future work is carried out on the flood defence.”
