Since it is the hometown of my late treasured wife, I have known Lampeter for many years.
During this time car parking in the town’s car parks has gone from being free (happy days!) to now being subjected to quite frequent price increases.
Nowadays this is perhaps to be expected, but what is unexpected is that the powers-that-be have decided to make payments more difficult by introducing card-only payment machines - as I discovered during a recent visit.
This arrangement has been introduced despite the inconvenience which it can cause to many who, like myself, prefer to use cash for such transactions
If, as I suspect, this has been introduced as a cost-cutting exercise, it appears to have badly misfired. At midday on a Saturday the main car park, so often full with cars in the past, was more than half empty; the Rookery car park was, as usual, completely empty. No revenue there then!
This letter will, of course, have little or no impact upon those behind this scheme. Hopefully however, the town business community will have more success, otherwise Lampeter’s decline from a once thriving and attractive little town with a variety of interesting and locally owned shops will continue.
