U3A
THE MONTHLY meeting took place on Thursday, 25 February. After a quick round-up of event reminders, chairman Pete Mears introduced Glen Johnson.Glen known locally as The History Man, and bearing more than a passing resemblance to Indiana Jones) gave a fascinating insight into the Cardigan of yesteryear by showing ‘then and now’ photographs of the town. Some of the earlier photographs were taken well over a century ago, but a surprising number included local land-marks that are still easily recognised. As well as good, hard facts, Glen kept the group amused with plenty of anecdotes about local places and characters. He also runs a website – www.glen-johnson.co.uk – that is a mine of information on Cardigan and the surrounding area, and is used regularly by the U3A local history group. The next meeting will be on Thursday, 24 March, from 2pm to 4pm at the Catholic Church Hall, North Road, when Chris Evans, the leader of the geology group, will be speaking on the Teifi Estuary Project, including mapping the estuary using LiDAR (light detection and ranging) data.
New members are always welcome to attend meetings.
