CARDIGAN residents keen to see a “long-overdue” revival of the town carnival are being urged to attend a key meeting aimed at resurrecting the dormant event on Friday.
The meeting at Bethania Chapel vestry will explore ways of resurrecting a once-popular event that seemingly reached the end of the road following the foot-and-mouth epidemic of 2001.
“A lot of residents have been requesting that the carnival makes a comeback and Friday’s meeting will be an opportunity to draw all interested parties together,” Cllr Mark Cole told the Cambrian News.
“This will be a chance for residents to take ownership of their carnival. We can’t expect the same individuals to run everything in Cardigan which is why we want volunteers to come forward.
“I’m hoping and expecting to see a big crowd on Friday evening.”
Cllr Cole disclosed he had been seeking the advice and guidance of those behind the successful revival of the Aberystwyth town carnival.
“I’m hoping for a report on how the Aber event was relaunched including the type of obstacles they had to overcome,” he said.
“The carnival has since become a key element of the summer calendar in Aberystwyth and that’s what we want a Cardigan Carnival to be down here.”
