Plans are being drawn up to turn Barmouth into a cashless town following a spate of burglaries at local businesses in recent months.
The town council is to arrange a public meeting to discuss plans to turn the town into a cashless hub.
Six popular businesses in the town have been the target of thieves in recent months, which has forced locals to rethink their security measures.
In light of this, at a monthly meeting last week, councillors agreed to host a meeting with residents and business owners on how best to safeguard their homes and businesses.
The idea was mooted of turning Barmouth into the UK’s first cashless town, making card and contactless payments the norm.
One of the issues raised was that there is no longer a bank in Barmouth to securely store cash, which some people have argued has led the town to become an easy target for burglars.
Mayor Phil Hill said: “I would like to set up a public meeting at the Dragon Theatre where the police safety officer could advise locals about the measures they can take to make their homes and businesses safer.
“It is at this meeting that we can advise businesses about becoming cashless.”
