NORTH Ceredigion saw two of the highest temperatures ever recorded in November on Sunday and Monday.
The weather station at Trawsgoed broke the record for the highest recorded UK temperature in November on Sunday when it was shown to be 22.4°C, breaking a record that had stood for 69 years after a temperature of 21.7°C was recorded in Prestatyn in 1946.
That was followed on Monday with a temperature of 22.3°C at Trawsgoed, with a Met Office spokesperson saying the record temperature was down to a warm air mass heading north with fog that has led to colder conditions elsewhere in the country not affecting Wales.
The spokesperson said: “We’ve got quite a warm air mass over the UK coming from the south and warm air coming up from the Azures and over the continent where it is warmer. There are light winds and high pressure.
“To the south-east of the high ground, the fog is getting trapped, so to the north and west it is clear of the fog. Also the wind usually heads south-westerly, but that’s not the case now and somewhere like Trawsgoed is going to be sheltered from the wind and benefit from the sunshine.”
The Trawsgoed reading was significantly higher than the highest temperature recorded in November last year which was 18.7°C at Writtle in Essex on 1 November.
November 2014 was the fifth warmest November in the period since 1910 with a mean temperature of 7.6°C.
