CEREDIGION MP Ben Lake has called for action for better broadband connections after a report found that Ceredigion has the 10th slowest broadband download speed in the UK.

Mr Lake warned that slow broadband speed can put rural companies and communities at “a significant disadvantage” and highlighted one of the report’s key recommendations that Ofcom should consider automatically compensating broadband customers who consistently fail to receive the speeds that they pay for.

Mr Lake said: “This is an important report which highlights how thousands of residents throughout Ceredigion are missing out on fast broadband connections.

“All too often, rural communities lose out on access to key services due to the postcode lottery of irregular and unreliable provision.

“The report by the British Infrastructure Group makes some key recommendations which I urge the UK Government to adopt.

“I want to see progress made on the Digital Economy Act to ensure that a Universal Service Obligation is delivered. This would define a minimum broadband download speed of 10Mbps and help close the provision gap between rural and urban areas - something which Plaid Cymru has championed for a long time.”
