CEREDIGION Museum has won a national award for enhancing skills and training.

The Aberystwyth-based museum won the Museums and Heritage Skills Award on Monday at an awards ceremony at The Lowry in Salford.

Organisers of the Creative & Cultural Skills Awards, which celebrate individuals and organisations who champion excellence in the creative industries, said Ceredigion Museum won for its “passion” and “innovative approach”.

“Ceredigion Museum won the award for their passion and innovative approach to supporting skills and training within museums and heritage. Their programmes support communities and engage young people with the skills and training required to work within the industry,” a spokesperson said.

The museum had been up against Gateshead College/Tyne and Wear Archive and Museum and The Design Museum.

Pauline Tambling CBE, chief executive of awards organisers Creative & Cultural Skills, said: “Many of our winners are the unsung heroes of our brilliant creative industries.

“Their inspiring work underpins current success and ensures that future generations will have the skills needed for our sector to grow and thrive.”

“It means a lot to our volunteers and team that the work we are doing is noticed,” a museum spokesperson said.
