Ceredigion will continue to welcome Syrian refugees under a UK Government scheme, with the next two families moving to the area expected to relocate to Lampeter.
As part of a UK-wide scheme to resettle Syrian refugees affected by war in their country, Ceredigion Council has been working with private landlords to provide stable, suitable accommodations for families with 43 refugees already settled in the county, and a target of 50 refugees being settled in the county expected to be met.
That is alongside community group efforts in both Aberystwyth and Cardigan to help refugees settle in the towns.
Leader of the council, Cllr Ellen ap Gwynn, said the authority was keen to continue helping refugees and praised how the refugees that have moved into the county have integrated, and also the welcome they have received from the local community.
She said that the council had been working closely with private landlords to provide suitable accommodation and said that had worked well.
Cllr ap Gwynn said: “Finding accommodation is the most difficult task, but we are succeeding and I thank the private sector for assisting us.
“It’s wonderful to see the refugee families want to do as much as they can in the area.
“They produce Syrian food to help thank the community, and I know they’ve been very pleased with the reaction they’ve received.”
