As a mark of respect, civic buildings in Ceredigion will, on Friday, fly the red ensign of the Merchant Navy.
Along with Ceredigion County Council buildings, the RNLI and National Library of Wales will fly the red ensign. The purpose of the Merchant Navy Day is to recognise the sacrifice Merchant Navy seafarers made during times of conflict. Ex-seafarers may also hoist the ensigns at their homes.
Ian Lewis, chair of the Ceredigion Merchant Navy Association, said: “The association was launched in 1989 with the objective of getting greater recognition of the Merchant Navy and includes importantly, its veterans and the critical and strategic role of the Merchant Navy in times of war and conflict.
