A NINE-year-old Lampeter schoolgirl will be one of only two harpists in the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain (Under-10s) after passing her recent audition.

Remarkably, Cerys Angharad Jones, who attends Ysgol Bro Pedr, has only been playing for two years.

Cerys, from Pencarreg, near Llanybydder, is taught by Llywelyn Ifan Jones, a professional harpist from Felinfach.

“Only nine months have passed since I began teaching Cerys and already she has completely transformed as a harpist,” he told the Cambrian News.

“She was already a great little musician and commendation is due to her previous teacher for the work that she has done. Since April she has been a winning racehorse committed to working on her craft. She established a strong core technique and now she is flying.

"She performs with such grace and maturity, I sometimes forget that she is yet to reach double figures in age.

"Gaining a place at the prestigious NCO is a mighty achievement and will give her the greatest musical experience in these early years. I can’t wait to see how she blossoms in this coming year.”
