Madam,
I would like to respond to Cynog Dafis’ ludicrous comments (‘Ex-MP slates deplorable Lib Dem election campaign, Cambrian News, 26 May).‘Negative Campaigning’ is not about challenging the incumbent over their record or policies or indeed their party’s policies, as Plaid did with our MP last year in the general election. Is that not double standards?
Myself, I believe that is exactly what campaigning is about. Holding our elected officials to account over their actions.
If people questioned these people more, we might have a better country to live in.Negative campaigning is about attacking the person’s character, slander, a more personal attack, of which I saw none in any Lib Dem leaflets nor for that matter in the leaflets of any party.
And yes Plaid’s majority may have increased but if Mr Cynog Dafis wants the facts Plaid actually lost votes. It may only have been six, but it’s a loss. So Plaid didn’t do anything to increase the majority. It was UKIP that took votes from both parties.
Furthermore, Elin Jones may have won the seat on her campaign of representing the good people of Ceredigion, but she then promptly took the presiding officer’s job.
So in effect our county doesn’t have an effective AM anymore who can voice our concerns in Cardiff. Which feels to me to be a waste of a vote.
Yours etc
