WALES’ leading music charity, which improves the lives of disadvantaged groups across the country, is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a landmark concert.
Community Music Wales will mark its quarter-century with an interactive showcase of top community music performers – some of whom have developed alongside the charity.
Featuring a diverse selection of performers, the 25 And Live concert at the Tramshed, Cardiff on Thursday, 9 November, at 7.30pm, will celebrate how the charity’s creative and inspiring workshops has improved more than 50,000 lives. Some of those lives are right here in Ceredigion.
Monday evenings in Lampeter became more lively last year thanks to CMW’s creative workshops, which ran earlier this year as part of WWF’s Earth Hour celebration.
The first week of classes began in February with almost 100 local residents participating in singing, drumming and natural sound sessions.
The free evenings were designed to raise awareness of the annual ‘Celebration of our Brilliant Planet’, a concept promoted in Wales by WWF Cymru, and funded by the People’s Postcode Lottery. The workshops continued for three weeks and included a weekend class where participants were encouraged to make lanterns ready for use to light the performance that took place at Victoria Hall during Earth Hour itself.
Hannah Jenkins, director of Community Music Wales, said at the time: “The number of participants joining us in Lampeter is really phenomenal, and the workshops have been a great success with the tutors commenting on the standard and commitment of those involved.”
