A CANCER charity is appealing for help from the people of Machynlleth to raise thousands of pounds by looking after collection tins and daffodil boxes.

The call comes as a local fund-raiser for Marie Curie cancer charity announced they have plenty of collection tins and boxes in shops and pubs but nobody to empty them.

Victoria Hardy, Machynlleth community fund-raiser, said that by regularly emptying full tins and boxes, volunteers could help the charity raise more money to provide one-to-one nursing care for terminally-ill people in their own home in Machynlleth and the surrounding area.

Miss Hardy said: “Looking after the collection tins is a really effective way to help support local Marie Curie nurses.

“We’ve got tins out in shops and pubs but no-one to look after them, so they aren’t raising as much money as they could, which in turn affects the amount of Marie Curie nursing we can provide."

If you would like more information and can give up a few hours to help fund local care, contact Victoria Hardy at the fund-raising office on: 01745 352910 or 07720 949007; or e-mail: [email protected].
