A FOOTBALL-MAD “local legend” will be commemorated in a charity game this weekend.
Bernard ‘Bernie’ Smith passed away last month after a lengthy battle with Motor Neurone Disease.
He was 66 years old.
A renowned figure in Pwllheli, and across the Llyn Peninsula, Bernie was known for his love of football, coaching and his years of distinguished service for Pwllheli RNLI.
This Saturday (30 December) a charity match to commemorate his life will take place at CPD Pwllheli FC’s home ground at midday, with anyone who knew or played under Bernie invited to attend.
Bernie is seen (right) when he received the ‘Coach of the Year’ accolade in the 1996 ‘Dwyfor Sports Council’ awards; and (second picture, third from left, back row) in a Nefyn playing kit, around 10 years ago in a friendly match between two veterans’ teams.
