OVER £2000 has been raised towards an eye tumour charity by a group of Porthmadog runners.

Gonks Hughes, of Hebog Running Club, took on the Three Peaks Challenge with several members of his running club which include Malcolm Davies, Richard Jones, Sian Williams, Aled Lloyd and Elfyn Hughes on Friday, 30 September.

The group challenged themselves to complete the gruelling run in just one day which will involved running up Snowdon, Scaffell Pike and Ben Nevis to raise funds for The Royal Liverpool Charity who raise funds to improve facilities for patients and staff at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals.

Gonks said: “On 13 July 2015 our lives changed as a family when my wife, Steph, was diagnosed with an eye tumour.

“Since then we cannot thank the staff of the eye clinic enough for their constant support and therefore have decided to do the Three Peaks Challenge which saw us running Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon mountains in one day.”
