Charity shops receive many things as donations, but one of the most difficult things to sell on are wedding dresses.
With that in mind, Nicola Burgess, who works in the Severn Hospice shop in Machynlleth, has come up with an idea.
To raise money for the shop, and to bring these beautiful dresses to the attention of local brides, Nicola has teamed up with other charity shops in the town for a very special event.
Speaking to the Cambrian News about the inspirational dresses, Nicola said: “Some of them are very beautiful and must have cost a small fortune when new.
“Given that the average cost of a wedding these days is £20,000 and, along with the awareness of the need for more sustainable fashion, charity shops in Machynlleth are getting together for a special upcycled wedding fair in Machynlleth on 9 March.
“The event will host local retail charities selling wedding dresses, occasion wear, wedding accessories, vintage crockery, etc, etc.
“There will be a fashion show at the event, which promises to be very entertaining and we will also have a seamstress who does wedding dress alterations and a lady who does hat alterations and a local flower farmer who provides locally grown organic flowers for weddings.
“We also have a raffle attached to the event with some really great prizes, and the money raised will go to Severn Hospice."
