A man aiming to walk the length of the UK coast to help cancer sufferers has passed through Aberystwyth.

Pensioner Brian Burnie, founder of the charity Daft as a Brush, reached Aberystwyth last week during his trek to raise awareness of his cause.

Daft as a Brush provides free transport to and from treatment for cancer patients who are undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

Despite having Parkinson’s, 75-year-old Brian is completing the walk with the support of his wife, Cheryl, who is travelling with him in a specially modified bus.

Brian said that his time in Wales has been “unbelievable”.

He added: “Without Cheryl I couldn’t do the walk. It’s a team effort.”

Brian hopes to take the charity nationwide, providing free transport to cancer treatment for patients across the UK.

Brian said: “The most stressful and anxious time the patient goes through is worrying how they are going to get to treatment.

“But it’s about the whole community, not just about somebody going from A to B. It affects everybody.”

Brian added: “I have walked all four UK countries and, without a shadow of a doubt, Wales is the most beautiful. Absolutely stunning.

"The coastal path is something quite amazing; it goes the full length of the country. Wales is really in a league of its own."
