A CHILDREN’S story explaining the ‘secret’ of happiness is now available to the general public.
The Sammy’s Stories initiative has been set up by family therapist Barbara Martindale, who has been working in Tywyn since 2003, and has been having a very positive effect on the town’s children for months.
Hundreds of kids have taken the course which teaches them awareness of how their thoughts affects their moods, behaviours and physical reactions.
Through a series of illustrated books and talks about Sammy, an adorable puppy, Tywyn youngsters have learnt how to raise their self esteem and make themselves less of a target for intimidation.
The book which Barbara uses to teach the youngsters has now been printed, with a Welsh version due in the new year, and parents of young children are encouraged to get involved.
Barbara said: “We want to reach all young children, and can provide a course, for home taught children aged four-11years old if they contact us.
“All Year 3 children at Penybryn Primary School gave very positive feedback after the summer holidays on how they had used the information from the stage one activity course ‘What makes you Happy?’, to help when they felt sad, scared or upset to feel happy.
“Lisa Markham of Tywyn Library is also a star, she has translated all our materials so we can use them in the schools, and given us enthusiastic support with book readings and workshops in the town’s library."
