A CHILDREN’S project in Machynlleth has held an event to celebrate the life of a woman who helped run it for two decades.

Staff and trustees of the Machynlleth Community Children’s Project (MCCP) held the day on Sunday, 23 July to celebrate the life and contribution of Pam Williams, who died in December.

To mark the occasion MCCP purchased a new wooden play den for the children with ‘Pam’s Den’ inscribed over the entrance.

Crona Hodges, member of the MCCP board and a neighbour to Pam in Aberdyfi, said everyone “believed Pam would have given this a big thumbs up”.

“She was always very pragmatic and had the children at the forefront of her mind,” Crona said.

“There were some fun activities for the children including a story time corner; thankfully the weather was glorious so the little ones were able to make full use of the fabulous garden and outdoor toys at the nursery. A ‘time to reflect’ corner of the garden was set aside for folk to dwell on their memories of Pam, something she had taught them over the years or something they were grateful to Pam for, and these were recorded on colourful pieces or paper, some decorated by the children, and placed inside our memory box.

“These will all be scanned in and, along with photos taken by local photographer Clive Nolan, will contribute to a scrap-book style photobook which will be created by the staff and Board, to record the day.”

Crona told those at the event how strong Pam’s commitment to MCCP was over the years, despite her many voluntary roles elsewhere, saying “how determined Pam was to fly the flag for the children and staff, caring for both so deeply, and to see MCCP continue to succeed”.
