A councillor has called for more to be done to clear children’s playing areas in Penparcau after regular reports of rubbish being strewn across facilities.

Penparcau county councillor Lloyd Edwards said he was “disgusted” that issues continue to blight the games area and Adizone on the Min y Ddôl playing fields.

He said he receives regular complaints from residents over the state the area is left in, particularly after weekends when he says people are using the facilities to hold late-night gatherings.

Last week, Cllr Edwards said he found discarded beer and Coke cans and has regularly found broken bottles.

He also found two dumped shopping trolleys that had been left to rust, along with a bicycle.

“This has happened several times and is becoming a regular thing,” Cllr Edwards said.

“More needs to be done because this is an important area that is used by a lot of Penparcau youngsters.

“It seems to happen over the weekend when it’s used as a place to get together.”

Aberystwyth Town Council is responsible for the upkeep of the area and clerk Gweneira Raw-Rees said the council had investigated the latest incidents.
