MORE tributes have been paid to a 27-year-old who lost his life abroad as the Foreign Office faces further criticism.
Sean O’Mahony, from Blaenau Ffestiniog, died after falling from his balcony in Tangshan, China, in early December.
His family are currently battling to have his body returned to the UK in order to give Sean a funeral surrounded by family and friends.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has been criticised by the grieving family for offering a “terrible level of support” as they have spent weeks trying to bring Sean’s body home.
Sean was teaching English in China when he lost his life.
A spokesperson for the English First school where he taught paid a glowing tribute.
“Sean was a very kind, thoughtful and hardworking teacher,” they said.
“His gentle manner and musical mind will be missed by colleagues and students alike. The time he spent with us will be forever cherished.”
Dwyfor Meirionnydd MP Liz Saville Roberts has also offered her support to the O’Mahony family and expressed her concerns about how the Foreign Office had dealt with the tragedy.
“I have been in dialogue with the Foreign Office since this pressing matter was first brought to my attention, seeking clarity on behalf of the family who are grieving the loss of a much loved son and brother,” she said.
“I have raised several points of concern with the Foreign Office regarding the way in which information about Sean’s death has been communicated to his family and requested their fullest cooperation in this matter.
“My office and I will continue to support Sean’s family in any way we can.”
A fundraising page to help pay for Sean’s repatriation collected over £1,000 under 24 hours. The total now stands at over £3,400.
