A MUCH-LOVED choir has celebrated half a century of entertaining crowds across Dwyfor and Meirionnydd.

Crowds gathered at Neuadd Llanegryn on Saturday, 18 November, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Côr Meibion Bro Dysynni.

Beginning in 1967 – originally as the Abergynolwyn choir - this group has always enjoyed a good reception in the area.

The choir sang some of its standard favourites, in Welsh and English, such as O Gymru, Rachie and African Prayer and some more recent songs learned for their forthcoming concert at the Albert Hall in 2018.

They were also joined by soloist Treflyn Jones.

Other highlights included sea shanties by the choir dressed as pirates, an appearance of a modern penny farthing to the singing of Hen Feic Penny Farthing Fy Nhaid and two of the choir morphing into policemen/woman to sing the Gendarmes.

Ruth Telfer, who witnessed the performance, said: “Through the last 50 years Côr Meibion Bro Dysynni have been enjoyed by so many people locally and those that have visited the area.

“The full house of folk from the surrounding communities bore witness to the love and standing that this choir holds within the local people’s hearts.

“A big thanks was extended to everyone who came, the choir, the conductor, and the accompanists and we all look forward to the next 50 years of this very popular and successful choir. Diolch yn fawr iawn.”
