The founder and former conductor of an award-winning south Ceredigion choir has died unexpectedly at the age of 65.

Long-time Cardigan veterinary surgeon Wyn Lewis – widely known as ‘Wyn the Vet’ – died on Saturday, it’s believed from complications arising from a heart operation.

For many years he was a mainstay of Cardigan-based practice Priory Vets.

He was also a long-time deacon and precentor at Blaenannerch Chapel.

In his younger days Mr Lewis, whose family farmed at Treprior, Tremain, played for Cardigan RFC as a scrum-half.

After hanging up his boots he formed the celebrated all-male choir Ar Ôl Tri which went on to win a host of awards at the National Eisteddfod and Llangollen International Eisteddfod.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy, and daughters Sioned and Megan.
