CHORAL singers struck a chord with churchgoers and raised over £1,000 for a helicopter charity over Christmas.
£1,243 was raised for the Wales Air Ambulance service at a successful Christmas concert in St Mary’s Church, Caernarfon on 7 December where carols were sung by four local choirs: Côr Dre, Côr Cofnod, CôrNarfon and Côr Meibion Caernarfon.
The choirs, which attract members from across Dwyfor and Meirionnydd, raised money for the worthwhile cause which has “saved so many lives” in the area. The choirs take it in turn to organise this annual event and it was co-ordinated by Côr Meibion Caernarfon on this occasion.
On Tuesday, 8 January, Alwyn Jones, Gwynedd community co-ordinator for the Wales Air Ambulance Service, came to the Côr Meibion Caernarfon’s first rehearsal of the new year to receive the donation.
He said: “I thank all four choirs for their generosity. The huge sum of £1,243 was raised – an important and much appreciated contribution towards the £6.5 million we need to collect annually to keep our four helicopters flying throughout Wales.
“The packed audience at St Mary’s Church enjoyed inspiring performances of Christmas carols by all four choirs.”
Côr Meibion Caernarfon chairman, Alwynne T Jones said: “This annual carol concert puts us all in the Christmas spirit. This time, it was a chance to say thanks to everyone associated with the magnificent red helicopters which have saved so many lives.”
