An Aberystwyth-based singing group will take over the arts centre this Christmas to raise money for Bronglais Hospital.

Elinor Powell’s Sgarmes will celebrate the festive season with friends at a free concert, which takes place in the Great Hall on Saturday, 22 December, at 7.30pm.

Joining the group are special guests Côr Meibion Machynlleth, Aberystwyth Brass Ensemble, Sgarmangels and Lleisiau Ysgol Padarn Sant.

Sgarmes, a close harmony singing group set up by Elinor Powell 12 years ago, are well-known throughout Wales and last year gained national acclaim when they reached the live final of BBC TV show Pitch Battle.

The group, chosen by judges Gareth Malone and Kelis as their wildcard for the final, sang with international superstar Jermaine Jackson, and have since been booked to perform with Russell Watson on his latest tour.

A Christmas Singalong With Sgarmes and Friends has been organised to raise money for Bronglais, and tickets are free.

“Every time we perform our Christmas set, members of our audiences always approach me afterwards saying they wish they could singalong with us as they know all the words!” said Elinor.

“What better way to enjoy the hugest Christmas singalong than to hold a concert in the wonderful Great Hall really close to Christmas. Lyrics will be provided too.

“We want to give everyone the chance to be there and that’s why tickets will be free!"

Tickets must be booked at Aberystwyth Arts Centre to secure a seat. Call 01970 623232 or visit the arts centre website at www.aberystwythartscentre.co.uk.

A JustGiving page will be created for those who can’t be there on the night but would like to help Sgarmes raise money for the local hospital.

If any businesses would like to donate a raffle prize, email [email protected].
