A NUMBER of buildings in Borth suffered significant damage following last week’s unexpected hurricane-force winds.

The old Catholic Church, which the Cambrian News understands was recently sold at auction, suffered the worst of the damage after part of the roof and sidewall were destroyed by the 94mph winds, which struck at around 10.30am on Thursday, 17 November.

The Surrey Cafe, on High Street, also sustained serious damage to its roof, with police closing the road and walkway outside the building pending a structural survey.

The Amusements Arcade is understood to have suffered minor damage.

Speaking to the Cambrian News, Cllr Ray Quant sympathised with residents and business owners who were affected.

“The church was recently sold at auction,” said Cllr Quant. “I don’t know who bought it but I know a local person was outbid.

“You have got to feel sorry for all those who have been affected.”
