RESIDENTS of a Cardigan street claim their lives are being made a misery by speeding drivers and inconsiderate parking.

People living in William Street – one of the town’s oldest streets – say their one-way road is “clogged up” by parked vehicles which prevent them from reaching their own front doors.

They are also concerned at the speed of vehicles using the street as a short cut into the centre of town.

“I’ve met with a few residents who have long-standing concerns about parking in what is a very old and narrow street,” Cllr Mark Cole told town council colleagues last week.

“It’s open to anyone to park there and traffic can build up.

“The street cleaner cannot always get between these parked cars and a build-up of rubbish also occurs.

“Residents are having trouble accessing their own homes and I understand that a county council officer is coming down to meet them.

“Ideally, residential parking would be a good idea because it would be giving precedence to the people who live there.

“The problem with William Street is that it’s a rat run – drivers coming down Feidrfair turn right and use it as a short cut.”

Dai Hughes, whose family has owned a house in the street since 1875, described the parking problems as “atrocious”.

He added: “It makes my blood boil when I think of all the council tax people are expected to pay, yet they still have to put up with all this nonsense.

“There is a paying car park just a few yards away at the Fairfield, yet people prefer to use William Street because you don’t have to pay here.
